I am professionally qualified to work with adults. I have experience in working with children in a variety of professional settings. I have experience in counselling children and young people (11- 18 years) as a volunteer counsellor at a charity youth service. I am undertaking a post graduate diploma in Children and Young Persons Psychotherapy.
At this present moment in my practice, I consider working with those aged 11 and over. Should you be interested in my services, I would conduct an initial phone session with the parent or guardian in order to risk assess and consider my suitability.
If you are a parent considering counselling for your child, please consider seeing your GP to explore any medical reasons for what your son or daughter may be experiencing. Please also consider any free counselling services that may be available in your area (No Limits, Southampton). While you may face issues such as not meeting thresholds, waiting lists or time limitations, it may also prove to be a good opportunity. Most colleges and universities also have well- supported free counselling services.
Counselling and Psychotherapy remains an unregulated profession, largely overseen by well-resourced and respected professional bodies, such as the BACP, of which I am a member. There is a large difference between having experience of working with children and having a recognised Children and Young Persons Counselling or Psychotherapy qualification, supported by relevant experience of counselling children.
